Large dogs need enough flat sleeping area to change position without hanging over an edge. Support, cover construction and cleaning matter more than decorative padding. This draft comparison sets out the fields that will be checked once real products and test samples are available.
How we tested
No physical product test has taken place yet. The provisional ranking demonstrates the intended assessment method: verify internal dimensions, inspect foam depth and density, remove and refit covers, follow wash instructions and check the base on common floor surfaces. Long-term compression and seam strength will need a controlled use period with suitably sized dogs.
How to choose
Measure your dog while fully stretched, then compare that measurement with the usable inner area rather than the external dimensions. A supportive mattress should recover after pressure and remain easy for the dog to step onto. Check whether the whole cover can be removed, whether replacement covers are sold and whether the filling can be kept dry during washing. Dogs with pain or reduced mobility need advice from their vet alongside a stable, accessible sleeping place.
